Abouth James “Jim” McAlonan

Jim has led a somewhat varied career (professional gambling, online auctioneering and vehicle dismantling to name a few roles) but it is perhaps his passion for computing, paired with his experience as a teacher of the subject in UK secondary schools that brought him to Udemy to teach. James’s experience in computing started at a young age, when he began learning the Pascal programming language, encouraged by his father, Paul. In 2017 came the realization that everything he’d learnt so far about computing could be applied in a whole new way — hacking. Since then he’s worked as a penetration tester, and ghost authored a book on the subject. He is now working as a security consultant for a UK company, providing web application and external infrastructure assessments for clients.
